New Castle News - Progress Edition 2011
Company Bio
In the 1880’s, Oscar Tobias “O.T.” Beight began working in the monument industry designing and cutting cemetery headstones for a small company outside New Castle in Lawrence County. The owner retired soon after and sold the operation to O.T. In 1897 he moved the business to the family farm in East Palestine, Ohio. Since then, the business has been run continuously by the Beight family for 114 years. The Company maintains its original office and plant in East Palestine and has additional offices in Boardman Ohio and New Castle.
In 2000, Donald Watters, a respected stone craftsman in New Castle, retired and sold his business to O.T. Beight & Son’s. Recently in 2011 the New Castle office moved from its East Washington Street location to 3407 Wilmington Road.
The picture on the right commemorates our first stone monument made by O.T. and shows his crew of seven men setting the stone at the Little Beaver Cemetery in Enon Pennsylvania in 1897.
Today O.T. Beight & Son’s is one of the oldest and most successful monument companies in the country. It operates three boom trucks and has set granite in over 400 cemeteries in the tri-state area. In addition to designing custom cemetery memorials, the Company provides beautiful engraved "Welcome" stones and boulders for homes, and granite signs for businesses. They also have a turnkey brick paver fundraiser program for local schools, municipalities, and civic organizations. O.T. Beight & Son’s was recently chosen by Neshannock Twp Schools to provide custom engraved pavers for its Ronald J Russo Inspirational Garden, which can be ordered online at www.otbeight.com
